Mr. Thomas Keogh believes that technology is an asset that can be used to help students become "designed thinkers."

It is with great pride that our Board of Education President Nicholas Ciappetta introduces Mr. Thomas Keogh as the new Assistant Principal of Birchwood Intermediate School. Mr. Keogh is a lifelong educator who possesses an unwavering work ethic and genuine passion for his craft. Mr. Keogh spent the past several decades as a prototype teacher and leader, and he is sure to have an immediate impact upon our Birchwood learning family.

Mr. Keogh received a business degree from Binghamton University before pursuing a career in teaching that allows him to feel truly fulfilled. This will be Mr. Keogh’s 21st year teaching, first becoming a member of the South Huntington School District as a student teacher at Maplewood Intermediate. He began teaching the 3rd grade before becoming a 4th-grade teacher for 8 years and for the last 2 years has been a Math AIS instructor. His philosophy “it takes a village to raise a child” is a direct invitation to parents, letting them know that he is there in any facet to work as a partner with them, to have an open line of communication, and create a strong foundation and lasting impression on his students so they can have the best experience.

Mr. Keogh also teaches Technology Education to teachers in the School of Professional Development at Stony Brook University and wants to share his love of technology with teachers in order to help students become 21st-century learners. He believes that technology is an asset that can be used to help students become “designed thinkers,” allowing them to come up with creative solutions to problems they may face so they can be their very best as they move forward. Mr. Keogh sees the importance of creating an atmosphere for students where they can learn to be flexible, and to adapt to our world of constantly changing technology.
