Walt Whitman High School Awarded an A+ by Niche.com

This past summer brought particularly good news as we learned that Walt Whitman has been ranked in the top high schools in New York State by Niche.com scholastic assessment. Niche.com has again selected Walt Whitman in its 2019 “Best Public High Schools in America” list naming us as one of the top 100 in New York State with an 80th overall ranking and the popular high school came in at #6 in Suffolk County.

“To be able to receive such praise is an amazing accomplishment and I am happy to see that the efforts of our school community are recognized,” said Whitman Principal Mr. John Murphy. “Parents, students, and staff work diligently to provide opportunities for all who attend and it is our goal to create global citizens ready to enter the world who are compassionate with a sense of purpose.”  

Walt Whitman is known as "the school that never sleeps" due to the countless hours that their staff puts in regularly to ensure that all students have the best high school experience possible.  We are also proud of the District’s overall ranking at #61 in the State out of 950 districts and #9 in Suffolk County out of 69 districts.”

“Our students and staff recorded unprecedented accomplishments in 2017-2018, and we were honored to be named by Niche.com as one of the top school districts in the region,” said District Superintendent Dr. Dave Bennardo.  “South Huntington’s unique combination of academic and co-curricular excellence is complemented by a healthy dose of empathy and services as our people prove that great accomplishments and true compassion can and do successfully coexist. The members of our learning family remain incredibly proud of last year’s work and know there are great things in store for the year to come.”
