Whitman Assistant Principal Ms. Colleen Grady congratulates Matthew Stampfel and Britany Khatchatourian, our two top athletes for the month of March.

Britany Khatchatourian, our March Female Athlete of the Month has been getting clutch hits for her Lady Wildcats and it shows in the win column. As the catcher for this year’s team, Brittany is doing everything she can on both sides of the plate to help her team win. “Behind the plate, I’m concentrating on framing her pitches [Riley Piromalli] and make it look like a strike and help her out wherever I can,” said our University of Albany bound senior.  “When I’m at the plate there is constant communication with the coach about what’s expected. I look to make contact and look for the gaps. I enjoy the game and my teammates and I share a lot of camaraderie that makes it fun. Everyone is supportive of one another,” said Brittany about this year’s special group of athletes. Brittany is a member of the National Honor Society, the Girl’s Leaders Organization and Girl’s Sports Night. She plays Field Hockey in the fall but will concentrate on a career track, possible accounting next fall in college.

Matthew Stampfel, our Male Athlete of the Month, knew the lacrosse schedule in March was going to be tough. Playing in all kinds of weather doesn’t help when you’re up against some of the country’s elite teams. “The Huntington win felt good,” said our college-bound senior.  “We play some pretty tough teams, but were beating some and holding our own against others.  Were a young team, and I’m trying to lead by example and put everyone in a position to win. I know my teammates and I on defense don’t always get all the credit, but what we do is important and we got to get the job done so our offense can score,” said our multi-sport athlete who enjoys Golf in the fall and runs the 300m in winter track.  “Lacrosse is like a family to me, they are all my brothers, I look forward during the day to getting out there on the field.”  Matt is a member of the National Honor Society and will be attending the University of Connecticut where he hopes to keep his love for Lax alive playing in their club league.

Congratulations to our March Athletes and Good Luck as you close out your season!
