Walt Whitman High School continued its tradition of honoring students who qualify for the prestigious SAT/ACT Scholars Club Award designation. Based on SAT and ACT test scores, students and their families were honored with a breakfast at Walt Whitman's south cafeteria. The morning began with Whitman’s Supervisor of Guidance Mr. Jon Macaluso welcoming the special guests and honored students. "The students being recognized today are of the highest caliber academically and personally. I am particularly impressed with their ability to perform so well on these pressure-filled exams,” said Mr. Macaluso.  “The SAT's and/or ACT's serve as just one example of each student's intellect, and I am confident that they will all go on to pursue great things in college and beyond."

Honored guests were introduced including Board of Education President Mr. Nicholas Ciappetta and Vice President Ms. Laura Carey.  “Of all the events in our district, the SAT/ACT Scholars Breakfast best represents our commitment to academic excellence and quality preparation for the student in our charge,” said Mr. Ciappetta.  Superintendent Dr. David Bennardo commended the students before introducing Walt Whitman Principal John Murphy and Assistant Principal Jon Varlamos who called each up to congratulate and receive their certificate.

"This accomplishment is a testament to the focus you have demonstrated over your high school career.  The dedication you have shown to ensure your academic success is something that should be praised and identified.  Not only do you bring great pride to our school and community but also to your parents who have been a support for you throughout your school career.  You personify the best Walt Whitman has to offer and leave us with the focus and dedication necessary to be successful in life's pursuits.” said Principal Murphy in his closing remarks.

Principal Murphy thanked parents, families, teachers, and the people who inspired our students. “Although these students have worked hard to ensure their success, all of this could not have been possible without the help and support of their family,” added Mr. Murphy.   “The roles you have played in your children's lives have made them the wonderful human beings they are today.   Their triumphs are built upon your efforts and support.”
