There were a good amount of young ladies who donated their long locks for the cause. Don’t forget, if you missed your chance, Birchwood is having a similar event; The Pantene Beautiful Lengths hair donation event on June 4th.

Whitman’s St. Baldrick’s co-coordinators Mr. Jaime Rogers and Ralph Miranda are pleased to report that this year’s event exceeded expectations. They were still counting the donations, weeks after the barber shears rested and the last count was a total of $27,650.

As part of the annual event held at Walt Whitman High School, South Huntington’s Maplewood Intermediate School teamed with Countrywood Primary Center and pooled their resources to make a big showing. Teachers received donations that allowed students to shave their teacher’s heads. Students couldn’t resist, and of course, all funds go to the many children battling cancer.  The combined Maplewood/Countrywood schools, captained by Dan Campbell, exceeded their goal by bringing in a whopping $15,873.

Team captain James Metzak, of the Silas [Wood] Saviours, marshaled his troops with teachers and students shaving $5,371 in donations. The district would like to thank the following cutters/stylists: Jocelyn and Jen from Beauty And Elegance Hair Studio; Nora from Hair By Nora; Gina from Spa Adrianna; and Annemarie, Marisa, and Kendall from Anthony Defranco Salon. And as we see each year, a big thank you to Walt Whitman’s Robotics team who coordinate and run this highly successful and meaningful event!

Donations are still accepted at the link to the South Huntington page: https://www.stbaldricks.org/events/WaltWhitmanHS2018

Be a hero for kids with cancer!  The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.  Get involved and you'll be giving hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
