Lady Wildcat Basketball player Danielle Kleet had a good month in January as she helps lead her team into the playoffs. At the time of this interview, the team had just played their senior game, beating Bay Shore 69-38 to set up a first-round Playoff game with Sachem East. “We work well together,” said Danielle.  “Were a hard-working team and the three of us [including starters Megan Soulias and Desiree Kleberg] have been playing together in travel league since were fifth-graders.”

Danielle plays soccer in the fall as well as AAU Travel Basketball. She is a member of the Girl’s Leaders Organization, and the World Language Honor Society and places the camaraderie of Wildcat sports, both as a player and spectator, as her favorite part of the high school experience.

Our other Athlete of the Month is junior Cedric Gordon. Coming off an injury during football season, Cedric’s basketball season started slow, but once he got in gear he was unstoppable. “Both Coach Fitz and Coach Eatmon worked with me and encouraged me to work hard and use my size,” said the 6’3” 250lb athlete.  “I was disappointed we missed the playoffs, and by only one game, but I tried my hardest to win and I’m looking forward to off-season training and next year.”  Cedric will be back on Whitman’s turf field as a defensive end and offensive tackle. “Football is all about team effort, and basketball has the individual aspect,” added Cedric. “I get the best of both from Football and Basketball.” Cedric also plays AAU travel basketball in the spring.
