Since February was American Heart Month, Maplewood Intermediate School took it upon themselves to continue to lead an extremely successful campaign raising money within the Jump Rope for Heart Program. “Maplewood has been participating in this program for 18 years,” said Physical Education teacher Mary Gross.  The P.E. Department at Maplewood takes great pride in continuing this program to help raise awareness to all types of cardiovascular diseases. Not only do they continue to educate their students on this topic, but they have also been able to raise over $9,000 three years in a row for the American Heart Association.

The main source of their fundraising comes from a special event held before school for two days where students come in and participate in many jump rope activities like jumping single ropes or long ropes.   Mr. Slovak's favorite,  Parkour (jumping over mats) is thoroughly enjoyed by all our students as well as climbing the SHEF Rock Wall.  “Last year we raised $13,000 for the American Heart Association.  It was just so amazing!!
