A pair of Walt Whitman athletes have been nominated to Newsday’s All-Long Island Teams for the Fall Sports Season.

Congratulations to Whitman volleyball player Jack Poplawski. Jack is a 3-year varsity starter and helped lead the team to the Suffolk County playoffs this past season. He was on Newsday’s top 25 to watch in 2017 at the beginning of the season. Jack’s 2017 Season Stats read as follows: 180 kills, 28 aces, 15 blocks, and 89 digs. He is a 3x all-county award winner and 1x all-tournament selection. For his efforts, Jack has been honored by being named to Newsday's All-Long Island Boys Volleyball second team. Great job Jack!

Congratulations to Whitman Soccer star Fernando Hernandez Osorio. Awarded All-Conference and All-County, Fernando has also been awarded League II MVP, a tremendous honor when you consider the quality of play in one of the states toughest men’s soccer leagues. With 20 goals and an assist, the news for this outstanding senior gets even better, varsity coaches John DiGiacomo and Brian Karcz are proud to announce that Fernando has been named to the All-State team. Fernando has been honored for his dedication and hard work by being named to Newsday's All-Long Island Boys Soccer second team. Way to Go Fernando!
