On November 14th South Huntington’s Bilingual Advisory Council presented to our Spanish Speaking families how to navigate through the School Website, the Calendar and Parent Portal. Our Stimson World Language teacher Marissa McCord talked about our website and the importance to understand all of the available resources that can found in their native language. Our Walt Whitman High School social worker Mr. Graciani highlighted our district calendar events, days off and school meetings. Calendars were distributed to all parents. During the BAC presentation, our TECH specialists Darryl Mancuso and Jackie Cantley assisted parents in obtaining their new Parent Portal sign on.

After the presentation, parents were escorted to the computer lab where they learned step-by-step how to change their passwords and sign in for the first time. Members of the committee, Ericka Perez Flowers our Bilingual (English/Spanish) Speech-Language Pathologist from Oakwood, Mr. Garcia our social worker from Stimson, Jacqueline Maggio, a teacher from Maplewood and Jennifer Provide our social worker from Birchwood were ready to assist parents during the registration process.

“Not only is a great pleasure to see members of the committee supporting and empowering parents, but it is extremely gratifying seeing 33 families looking at their children's records on our Parent Portal for the first time,” said Whitman social worker Mr. Roberto Torres. “The Bilingual Advisory Council's mission is to increase parent engagement and to meet the needs of our multi-bilingual community, we have a lot of work to do going forward.”
