Busy Bees at Maplewood and Birchwood

People often assume the honey bee is aggressive when in fact they are very gentle creatures.

South Huntington’s School Nutrition Services is beginning a campaign to show our children where some of our foods come from. Recently, honey was the hot topic and Beekeeper Marianne Dayton's presentation kept our Birchwood and Maplewood students enthralled.

Ms. Dayton visited our two intermediate schools to teach the children where honey originates, how it’s made and how it’s harvested.  The students learned a great deal about the interesting process. We thank Mrs. Sheila Buhse and the School Nutrition Services office for setting up this program for our students.
