Fall Sports in Full Swing

Whitman junior Fernando Hernandez (7) shown in an earlier game against Commack, presently leads his team in scoring with 11 goals.  Another talented junior Mabel Bassi finished strong against a tough competitor keeping her Wildcat team near the top in Suffolk’s League 2 Tennis standings.

We hear from varsity tennis coach Seth Novick that his Lady Wildcats won a big match against Northport the other day, 5-2.  Out of the 7 matches played, 5 of them went three sets.  The team was able to win 4 of them.  Mabel Bassi beat Shannon Culhane 4-6 6-1 6-3 at second singles.  Also coming back from a set down to win was Jasmine Haug, who beat Carla Pibouin 3-6 6-0 6-1.  Katie Miata and Stephanie Young were able to fight back and win at second doubles 2-6 6-2 7-5 in a very close match.  Rounding out the wins were Kayla Sakayan winning 6-3 6-3 at first singles and Katherine Gotard 7-5 5-7 6-4 at third singles.  The team fought extremely hard and got back to their winning ways after dropping two in a row.  Come out and support the Wildcats at home when the play at Kings Park next Wednesday, September 27th at 4PM

Varsity coaches John DiGiacomo and Brian Karcz report that the Boys Varsity Soccer Team improved their record to 5-1-1 with a 4-1 victory over Central Islip yesterday. Fernando Hernandez led the way with 2 goals while Tony Valencia and Sergio Licona added goals as well. Nik Cerrito, Jefferson Saravia and TJ Garcia chipped in with assists. Alec Wurtz made 4 saves in the game. Please come out and support the team at their next home game this Saturday, September 23rd at 1pm vs. Riverhead.
