The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. High school students enter the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Congratulations to Whitman seniors Joshua Joseph, Kentaro Matsushima, and Joseph VanGostein who have qualified as Semifinalist.

These outstanding students are three of 16,000 students nationally, or approximately one-third of the nations 50,000 high scorers, that have qualified as Semifinalists. Stay tuned as we expect to find out in February if any, or our entire trio, have advanced to the finalist standings.
