Mark Dammer had a successful trip to the Summer National Fencing Competition and can’t wait for his senior year of Wildcat fencing.

Whitman incoming senior Mark Dammer brought home gold from the Summer Fencing Nationals in Salt Lake City, on July 6th.  Mark is a Saber fencer and has been fencing for five years. When he’s not on the Wildcat Strip he can be found at H3 fencing out of Hills East.  The Summer Nationals is a qualifying event bringing in top fencers from around the nation.  “I really didn’t think I was going to get that far,” admitted our Gold Medal winner.  “The excitement of knowing that I could do this started to build after I beat the kid that got me into the table of eight. That’s when I realized that I could get into the finals and perhaps win.”  And win he did, all the way to first place.

“Fencing takes time,” admitted Mark. “If you’re going to take fencing seriously, start early and join a club to fence year-round.” Mark is also a midfielder for the Wildcat lacrosse team and is looking forward to his senior year. He is making the college visit circuit hoping study Forensic Science and Criminal Justice after his graduation next June.

Congratulations Mark Dammer!
