Whitman's Science Bowl team competed at Brookhaven National Lab this past weekend beating Mineola, Island Trees and William Floyd before they were eliminated. Team members Alex Clopper, Shelbi Wuss, Jordan Roiland, Mark Meneses, and Ben Nace, under the direction of Patty Lizza were supported by Marcus Maddy, Mari Scardapane and many Whitman science teachers who provided support to team members in their individual subject areas.

The team prepared intensely for this competition starting in the summer and continuing with practice every morning before school since September. Team captain Mark Meneses did an outstanding job of organizing and communicating with team members and faculty; his enthusiasm and knowledge have been inspiring to everyone connected with the team.

Topics studied and researched included all the major areas of life, physical and earth science as well as energy and advanced mathematics.

Juniors Kentaro Matshushema, Kristen Coletti, Andrew Ferreri, Scott McEntee, and Lauren Brown have been practicing with the seniors all year, enhancing the team's strength and preparing for next year.

We congratulate the team on their success, thank our seniors for all their hard work and dedication, and look forward to next year's competition.
