District Deputy Superintendent Ms. Jacci Harris, along with Astoria Banks’ Ms. Tamika Grant, and Project Excel Coordinator Mr. David Perkins, and the students and staff of Project Excel, acknowledge this generous grant from Astoria Bank.

Astoria Bank was at Maplewood Intermediate School recently to present a large donation to South Huntington’s Excel Program. “Thank You Astoria Bank for this generous grant to our Excel Program,” said Deputy Superintendent Jacci Harris.

Astoria is no stranger to community mindedness; they donate to over 700 different organizations and schools that are in their banking communities. “We’re so proud of all of you to be a part of this Excel Program,” said Ms. Tamika Grant, Branch Manager in Melville when speaking to our students. “It’s an honor for us to help you reach your goal.”

“We’re looking to take Project Excel to a new level,” said program coordinator Mr. David Perkins. “When we go out into the community and to events, we want our students to have maroon blazers sporting our district logo.”  Research shows that when students dress in a uniform way, they act differently and as a more a cohesive group. “We believe that by having blazers, that this will continue to build our students self-esteem and reflect positively on our school district,” added Perkins.

“We welcome this contribution from Astoria Bank,” said Perkins.  “This is a great headstart towards our goal of providing blazers for our students, and welcome other community-minded companies to join in our efforts.”
