Just prior to winter recess Maplewood fourth-graders in Ms. Cuozzo and Ms. Patino's class were hard at work designing a holiday obstacle course that would serve as a test track for their Dot and Dash Robots. As proud parents looked on, students expertly navigated their robots around Christmas trees and Frostie the Snowman, carefully avoiding ‘lakes’ of hot chocolate and snow banks as they made their way to the North Pole.

But before all this navigation could take place, our fourth-graders immersed themselves in the world of computer coding. With the help of their teachers and the district’s Technology Integration Coach Janine D’Elia, keeping Dash and Dot on the right road was plotted out in ‘code’ so all the right turns were taken on their way to the north pole.

Adding to the overall experience, fourth-grader Vianna Tumbarello's love of sewing was brought to life with the help of her grandmother. Vianna decided to show off her sewing skills and measured the circumference of Dash's head and sewed a Santa hat for all 5 robots.

Way to Go Ms. Cuozzo and Ms. Patino's Class!
