The Wildcat defense limited Suffolk County’s 2nd leading scorer Arthur Brzozka to only 13 points, but Lindenhurst’s Shane Webster hit a buzzer beater to seal the win in a hotly contested League II Matchup Tuesday night in Whitman’s North. “Brzozka was averaging 28-points a game,” said Whitman Head Coach Tom ‘Fitz’ Fitzpatrick.  “I have to give most of that [defensive] credit to Leevon Black and Craig Stockfeder for defending him and keeping us in the game.”

Leading the Wildcat offense was Senior Brandon Corbin with 13 points, Sophomore Cedric Gordon had 11 hard-earned inside points, John Keeler chipped in with 8 points and Jordan Lyons had 6 points at the guard position. “Tough one," said Fitz about the loss.  “But some good things came out of the game and while we have plenty of work to do, I’m proud how the guys never gave up and fought hard right to the end.”

This is the youngest team, in terms of experience, that the seasoned coach has had in his over 20-year history at Whitman. With one starter back in Brandon Corbin, and only three seniors on the team, this season will test the Wildcats in every way.  “Every day in practice and games, we will be learning, gaining valuable experience each day,” said Fitz, who along with Assistant Coach Ray Eatmon will have their hands full in a very tough League II.

“There are no easy games and each night will bring a new challenge,” said Fitz.  “Our goal is to work hard, pay attention to details, and get better each day.”

Come out and support your Wildcats this Friday as they go up against Riverhead at 6PM in Whitman’s North.
