Social Studies Chairperson Mr. Jay Corcoran is happy to announce that two teachers, Ms. Gabrielle Meier, and Mr. Thomas P. Baierlein, have recently earned w!se’s Financial Literacy Gold Star Certification.

Working In Support of Education (w!se) is an educational nonprofit dedicated to improving lives by developing financial literacy and readiness for college and the workplace.

Becoming a Gold Star teacher means that 95% of Ms. Meier and Mr. Baierlein’s students had to pass their Financial Literacy Test. “This year begins the tenth time we offer this course from w!se, a consortium of international corporations,” said Mr. Baierlein. “The financial literacy course we teach is part of our senior economics program and is intended to help kids prepare for their financial futures. Thanks to w!se and the generous donors to the financial literacy program, they have given us the tools to do what we do best, financially educate our students.”

“These courses are a great opportunity to help students learn ways to protect the money they make,” said Mr. Baierlein. "The personal finance elective at Whitman effectively prepares students to take charge of their financial futures.”

Congratulations to both of these outstanding teachers!
