Each year, staff and students donate gently used costumes to give to any student who needs a costume for our Oakwood Halloween Parade and for trick-or-treating after school. Any costume chosen, is theirs to keep!

Alice Macner, a retired Oakwood teacher, began this wonderful gift of giving several years ago, and it’s great to see Whitman student Daniela Pasquarello and the Oakwood staff continue this display of remarkable empathy.

The following is from Dr. Joseph Centamore as highlighted in this week's Superintendent's Newsletter:

No matter what role we play in the field of public education, it is critical to remember that the focus in our business is in fact the young people who comprise our communities.  Therefore, we are always motivated by stories of our special students who manage to achieve at great heights and display remarkable empathy, while demonstrating maturity far beyond their years.  It is with this understanding that we were inspired by the work of Whitman student Daniela Pasquarello, who coordinated a drive to bring Halloween costumes to students in need throughout our school district.  Daniela reached out to caring community members and hundreds of generous South Huntington teachers to create a Holiday Boutique that allowed dozens of students to browse before proudly selecting that perfect costume for the big day. It was incredible to see the smiles and feel the power of good work as the school district community galvanized behind such a worthy common cause.  We are truly blessed to have such fine students serving as role models in our South Huntington schools.
