http://www.shufsd.org/News/#38200When you’re in high school, you never know how your experiences are going to impact your life. Fortunately for many of our Hall of Fame inductees, they can recall specific events and people during their time at Walt Whitman that helped shape their lives.

For 1997 graduate Kelvin Joseph, his reflection on his formative high school days were crystal clear. “I learned leadership from being President of the Student Government,” said Joseph, a News 12 Long Island Scholar Athlete.  “I learned sacrifice and determination from being an All-County Wrestler, and I learned my commitment to excellence from the academic honors program at Whitman.”

Kelvin’s road to success was paved with hard work, determination, and his love for family. Kelvin’s grandfather moved the Joseph family from the island of Grenada to South Huntington, where Kelvin was the first male child born in America and from humble beginnings, the first to go to college.

Kelvin’s success has brought him numerous accolades. He earned the Trustees’ Award at Pace University, presented to the student whose positive contributions to University life and whose academic accomplishments exemplify the highest level of achievement attainable for an undergraduate. He was a 1st MassChallenge Winner, which is the world’s largest business startup competition, and was INC Magazine’s “Top 30 Entrepreneurs under 30,” winning this award the same year as Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. The American Advertising Association honored Kelvin with their Trendsetter Award, and most recently, he was the recipient of Westchester’s Forty under Forty Rising Star Award.

As the Chief Operating Officer & Chief Marketing Officer at Steiner Sports, Kelvin oversees the daily operations of the company and the strategic direction of all corporate marketing and business development. Steiner Sports specializes in helping companies use the power of sports to grow their business. It has spent 30 years building relationships with more than 2,000 professional athletes, national relationships with the major sports leagues, and partnerships with the best teams in sports.

Kelvin has been married for 13 years to his wife, Samanta, and is the proud father of Kelvin Jr. (11 years old), and Pamela (9 years old). While his accolades attest to Kelvin’s work ethic, he has always remained a grounded young man, firmly rooted in a unique balance between his spiritual journey, family, and his career. It is these virtues that will be his legacy.
