Congratulations to Walt Whitman 9th-graders William Valle, Wilmer Valle, Jefferson Orellana, and Saul Molina Vasquez who are among 22 Long Island students selected to attend the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) STEM Prep Summer Institute in July and August.  This highly selective four-week program provides outstanding students who belong to underrepresented minorities in the sciences with a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on research activities and instruction with the Brookhaven research staff.  The students will work in four weeklong modules covering each area of research conducted at BNL: physics, biology, chemistry, scientific computing, and environmental science. The program provides invaluable mentoring and experience, and positions the students to continue their work when they return to Whitman in the fall. Congratulations to our aspiring researchers, their families, and their teachers!
