Representatives from the American Legion Greenlawn Post 1244 and their American Legion Riders, along with Mr. Al Stanten from the United Veterans Beacon House at the Northport VA Medical Center stopped into Walt Whitman the other day to acknowledge and thank our leadership students and their advisor Ms. Liz Kenney for the tremendous effort they put into a drive to collect critical items to help veterans in need.  That drive brought in over 1,762 Food Items, 1,415 Personal Hygiene Items, and 404 Articles of clothing and/or Baby Items to local servicemen and their families.  New York State Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci also helped with the donation drive.

We are incredibly grateful to the numerous Walt Whitman families and staff who came together in a grand display of compassion and generosity for their neighboring veterans and their families. We are all very fortunate to work and live in such a very special place.
