Healthy competition doesn't always involve a volleyball or a dodgeball, as we’ve seen lately, our students have been actively engaged in the Spelling Bee, Regional Math Competitions, National History Day and the Geography Bee to name a few. But last night at Whitman's Performing Arts Center they held a competition that we've not seen before involving a microphone and a packed and boisterous audience.

It was the first ever lip sync battle pitting faculty against students as a fundraiser for the senior class. Whether it was old-school James Brown, Chuck Berry, and even Michael Jackson, or new-school Pitbull, Chris Brown, Beyoncé or Taylor Swift, our teachers and students left their shyness at the door and their energy on the stage floor. In a collection involving eight head-to-head competitions, a winner was chosen by the audience members and it didn’t take a math genius to figure out that Steven Prestia’s rendition of Eddie Mercury singing Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody would take home the Championship Belt.

The senior class would like to especially thank our judges: Mr. Miranda, Ms. Tonna, Mr. Karavias and Mr. Dreher, as well as the evenings emcee’s Mr. Varlamos and Mr. Graziano.  Alex Dolin, with the help of our Lamplighters, did an expert job so everyone could see and hear clearly.  And of course a big thank you to Principal Murphy and all of the Whitman administrators and teachers who had as much fun as the students they competed against.
