Rose’s final basketball season, her fourth-year of varsity play, was highlighted not by the number of wins but more the way the girls played as a team. “We brought up 3 freshman as starters this year,” said Rose. “My season was more about mentoring and leadership than scoring points.”  The season wasn’t all a struggle; the team did go on a win streak and it brought back memories when that was the norm. “My role this season was as a more well-rounded player, and someone the younger kids could look up to.”  Rose finished her basketball at Whitman as Academic-All County, All-League, and All-Conference. Rose will be playing college basketball next year at Nazareth College.

Adam Meskill was the senior player on the boys fencing team and he's only a junior. There were no seniors on the team this year so Adam filled the role of leader. The team almost closed the season on the positive side, ending with an 8-8 record.  Adam, a Foil Fencer, had a good season dropping 4 matches out of about 36, and took second-place in the County Tournament and made the All-Long Island team. “I like the strategy involved in fencing,” said Adam. “You have to always be thinking, if you don’t, it’s very difficult to win.” Adam fences year-round at Mission Fencing Center but this spring he will be on the Whitman Track running the 110m, the High Hurdles, and the 400 Intermediate.  Like his February counterpart, Adam enjoys mentoring the younger players and his commitment to leadership earns him our Athlete of the Month.
