Walt Whitman DECA Makes an Epic Comeback

The Annual New York DECA State Career Conferences was held March 9-11 in Rochester. Twenty of Walt Whitman’s accomplished DECA members attended the conference. Under the guidance of advisors, Ms. Deanna Kluepfel and Ms. Lillian Hsiao, and with help from the Business Department, our students cleaned up with a number of awards, medals, and trophies.

Sophomores, Joseph VanGostein and Rachel Vaughan won first place trophies in the written event, Buying and Merchandising Operations Research Project. Juniors, Ilana Desmond and Epiphany Ramirez took 3rd place trophies in the Marketing Communications Team Decision Making Events. Seniors, David Grey and Chris Davila won 5th place trophies in Business Law and Ethics Team Decision Making Event. These 6 students qualify to compete in the DECA International Career Development Conference this April, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Medals were awarded to the following students: Jason Girard for Automotive Services Marketing test, role play and top ten overall; Katie Clark for top ten test in Principles of Business Management and Administration; Jordan Roiland for Hotel and Lodging Management Services top ten test; Tyler Malone for role play in Hotel and Lodging Management Services; Misha Patel and Catherine Aiello top ten test Marketing Communications Team Decision Making; Colin Sherland and Jefferson Hector top ten test in Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Making.
