On Sunday, January 31, Walt Whitman High School hosted the National Dance Alliance (NDA) Whitman Winter East Coast Regional Dance Championship. This was the inaugural kick-off of what we hope will be an annual tradition. Nearly four hundred spectators came out to support their teams. In addition to Whitman, there were numerous Long Island schools represented as well as a few from the Tri-State area. Our Whitman team, under the direction of Ms. Kiva Boozer and Ms. Nicole Mercurio, did not disappoint the home crowd by posting two first place and two second place finishes in the four divisions they competed in. Our Step Team, under the direction of Ms. Pamela Johnson closed out the event with a wonderful performance.

Thanks to the marketing efforts of Mr. Lee Nober and the assistance and support of Ms. Jodi Greco and the Walt Whitman Varsity Dance Competition Team parents, Dr. James Wright and Ms. Jayne O'Toole and the Wildcat Booster Club, sponsorships, advertisements and proceeds raised will help to re-instate a middle level, self-sustainable dance program for 2016-2017.

Special thanks go out to our event sponsors Huntington Honda and Mathnasium, the Event Planning Committee, Ms. Kiva Boozer, Ms. Jacqueline Tartaro, the Business Office, New Media Marketing, Mr. John Murphy and the High School’s administrative team, Ms. Elisabeth Mahoney and the Girls Leaders Club, the District Technology team, Mr. Carlo Giordano and Mr. Michael Lusardi as well as the entire High School Custodial crew and Mr. Ray Spatafora and the South Huntington Security team.
