This past November, 118 students from Stimson Middle School took the American Math Competition (AMC 8).  This exam is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple-choice examination.  The examination provides an opportunity to apply the concepts taught in class to problems that are challenging as well as designed to challenge students by offering multiple problem solving experiences.

Barbara Tripi earned the top score for Stimson.  Gabrielle Girard had the second highest score. Aidan Luebker and Sarah Nace tied with the 3rd highest score.  Congratulations to these students and all 118 students that participated.

“It is so great to work in a school district that supports their students in engaging in competitions that challenge students to use what they learned in class and promote problem solving skills,” said Dr. Matthew Murphy, Supervisor of K-12 Math, Business and Instructional Technology in South Huntington. “A special thanks to Mr. Smith and Mr. Sansotta for help with the organization, and to the dedicated teachers supporting their students in this contest, Ms. Chiarelli, Mr. Goldman, Ms. Pascussi and Mr. Tedesco.”
