The Annual ASSET Awards Luncheon was held this past Wednesday, January 13th, and Maplewood fifth-grade teacher Ms. Lisa Hatton was recognized with their "Bright Light Award" as an outstanding educator for her use of technology in the classroom.  “I've integrated technology by using digital software to print 3D; we're Coding using code.org; I have my students programming robots Dash and Dot, and, by integrating Google Drive, Docs, Classroom and Slides into our classroom, we’re able to collaborate and present far beyond the borders of Maplewood,” said Ms. Hatton.  “My students love creating QR codes so they can quickly access articles, documents, and information needed to enhance their curriculum, and by using Book Creator, they have an additional platform to display what they are learning.”

“Lisa Hatton is a true leader when it comes to implementing technology in her classroom,” said Maplewood Principal Dr. Vito D’Elia. “She celebrates her students on a daily basis while implementing the very latest technology, all while her students are collaborating and being creative within their 21st century classroom.”

The Suffolk ASSET organization is a group dedicated to enhancing teaching and learning in Suffolk County school districts through the use of computers and other educational technologies by encouraging the integration of technology into the K-12 curriculum and ensuring that our students are provided with the educational opportunities necessary to prepare them for the 21st century.

We congratulate Ms. Hatton on her ASSET Bright Light award.
