Did you know that in today’s economy, computing jobs outnumber students graduating into the field by 3-to-1? And, computer science is foundational for every industry today. Yet most schools don’t teach it. In South Huntington we are trying to change that.

That’s why many students in our elementary schools joined in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 7-13). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code.  From Kindergarten through the 5th grade students used age appropriate online courses featuring some of their favorite contemporary characters that guided them in the basics of computer programming. “It has been remarkable to see the youngest children in our district embrace this challenge and effectively navigate these critical 21st Century skills,” said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jared Bloom.

Now it’s the parent’s turn to take part in our ‘Celebrate Code Parent’ event that will take place on Monday, December 14, 2015, at 6:30 pm at Stimson Middle School. Our ‘Celebrate Code Parent’ event is shaping up to be a great evening.
