Walt Whitman’s inaugural Maroon and White day took place on Wednesday as a way of acknowledging students who have maintained good attendance and strong academics.  On Wednesday's last period, winning students, 700+ strong, took over the North Gym and got to partake in an ice cream social and win various prizes such as ITunes gift cards, movie tickets, and even grand prizes of tablets and a Go Pro camera. “We want to be able to identify students who are doing the right thing, not just academically but being on-time every day, and doing what they can to be successful,” said Whitman Principal John Murphy. “We have over 100 prizes to give out as we pick names from a hat. I want to personally thank local businesses, our PTA, some of our parents, and our faculty who were all so generous by donating all of these wonderful gifts.” This new program will be repeated at the end of each quarter.
