The Walt Whitman Men’s Lacrosse team had four of their top players recently sign National Letters of Intent to play lacrosse at their prospective colleges and universities next fall.  Congratulations to the following players:

Shane Brennan will play for the 'Tigers' of Towson University next fall. The defending Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Champion Tigers are no stranger to playoff Lacrosse. Shane is a 3-year varsity starter, an All-American Nominee, Goalie of the Year for Division 1, All-County, and All-League.  “Shane is one of the top couple of goalies on Long Island,” said Varsity Coach Bob Howell. “Not only is he a great stopper in the cage, but he can come out of the cage and be that great 10th player all the time.”

Matthew Stockfeder will play for the 'Red Storm' of St. John's University. Matt is a big strong 6’3 midfielder with a shot like a cannon, tremendous field vision, and great Lacrosse IQ.  “Stocky is our quarterback up top in the Midfield,” said Coach Howell. “He’s the real deal, I think he’s one of the best midfielders on Long Island and will do a great job for St. John’s.”

Scott Manning will head south to Limestone College in South Carolina, where the 'Saints' are back-to-back NCAA Division II championships. Scott is a 3-year varsity starter, and one of the few left handed Attack players on Long Island.  “Scott can come around from X and score with a good selection of shots,” said Coach Howell.  “He’s great at finding the open guy, and a selfless player.  Scott will be our QB for the Attack this year and everything will go through him."

Spencer DeRosa is heading to Pace University next fall to play for the 'Setters.' After claiming the ECAC Championship Title last spring, the Pace University Men's Lacrosse squad look to build on last year's 9-7 record which saw them earn their first trip to the NE-10 Tournament since 2010. “Spence is a great kid with a good Lacrosse IQ- we expect a lot from him this year,” said Coach Howell.  “Last year he played between the lines for us very well as part of the midfield with ‘Stocky.’ Spencer is an excellent athlete and I feel he will do very well at Pace next year.”

Congratulations to these fine players and to their families. We look forward to a successful final season at Whitman this coming spring.
