Walt Whitman’s football players exhibited a gritty toughness and determination this past Saturday and refused to give up when down. This would be the seniors last time they would suit-up, and varsity head coach Robin Rosa honored all 19 of his senior players and their families before the game. Central Islip proved to be tough competitors and would answer each of the Wildcat scores with one of their own. But the Wildcats refused to lie down and found the will to win.

As reported by Newsday the highlights went as follows: Addison Bermudez found Jordyn Guerrero at the seven-yard line and Guerrero cut inside for the winning touchdown with 13 seconds remaining for Whitman. Tyrese Betts ran for 112 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries and threw a 66-yard touchdown to Jaysin Gurerro in the second quarter. Whitman wins 33-32.

The Wildcat scoring was as follows:

WW - Betts 5-yard run (Villatoro kick)

WW - Jaysin Guerrero 66-yard pass from Betts (Villatoro kick)

WW- Jaysin Guerrero 7-yard pass from Bermudez (Villatoro kick)

WW - Brown 99-yard Kick Off Return (pass failed)

WW - Jordyn Guerrero 13-yard pass from Bermudez.

“Even though we have been outsized in Division 1 by almost every team, our guys have competed and never given up,” said Coach Rosa. “This game was a perfect example of how we as a team never quit the entire season,” said Assistant Coach Ralph Milazzo to the team after the game.
