On October 22, 2015, Teacher Mentor Program coordinator, Bob Cangero, Teacher Center Director, Maureen Damm, and Teacher Center Administrative Assistant Kathleen Dooley hosted a reception in the Walt Whitman High School Library for this year’s new instructional hires.  The dozens of attendees, both mentors and new hires, gathered to hear words of welcome and advice from invited guests, Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci, South Huntington Public Library Director Janet Scherer, SHEF President Charles Ciravolo, and PTA Council President Eleanora Ferrante.

Numerous topics were discussed in a casual setting and refreshments were provided which helped to create a welcoming environment.  Participants were informed as to the many professional development opportunities our district had to offer, as well as sharing some of the district’s history of progressive leadership, which has always helped to maintain high standards of instructional and academic excellence.

Mr. Cangero commented that it’s always exciting to see the exuberance and energy which new hires bring each year to the district.  We’re anxious for everyone to experience the kind of support, which will help to ensure a successful first year and serve as a springboard for an outstanding career.  Fellow teachers and administrators alike have been more than welcoming to our newest instructors.  Welcome everyone!
