It all started when our Board of Education Vice President Nick Ciappetta suggested that we do something special to show our appreciation and support of Officer Collins, who was recently wounded during a traffic stop and arrest. It took only that suggestion for our coaches, staff, athletes, and student leaders to spring into action and create wonderful gift baskets to lift the recovering officer's spirits and show our community's appreciation to the entire Second Precinct of the Suffolk County Police Department. There was something inspiring about watching Ms. Acker and Student Government Officers Millie LeClaire, Noelle Bryggman, Dylan Diamond, and Juan Gonzalez Contreras deliver the South Huntington Wildcat spirit gear, get-well notes, snacks, books, and gift cards to Officer Drew Fiorello and Inspector Brady for delivery to our community hero. It is really nice to know that the warmth of the South Huntington family extends proudly outside our schoolhouse walls.
