At Monday morning’s PTA Council meeting, the Stimson Jazz Cats treated council members, school delegates, school administrators, and Board of Education members, as well as community members, to an assortment of Jazz classics. There were two solo performances as well, Chris Arthur on Baritone Saxophone and Megan Neuman on Bassoon captured the audience with the quality of their play.

Mr. Brian Zamek, Stimson music teacher and director of the Jazz Cats does a great job with our middle school students, and the audience couldn’t have started their week on a better note. “I'm very proud of the progress my students have made this year,” said Mr. Zamek.  Many of the students are in seventh grade and have not had many musical experiences outside of the concert band. Students in the Jazz Cats are learning how to play the many styles of jazz including the blues, swing, and bossa nova.

“Jazz music has a rich history and is truly ‘America's Music,’” said Mr. Zamek. Through rehearsals, students develop an appreciation for not only jazz music, but for the results of hard work and dedicated practice. On Saturday, February 7, the group performed at the SCMEA Day of Jazz. “The students represented themselves, Stimson Middle School, and the South Huntington Schools very well,” Mr. Zamek added.

Congratulations to the following talented Stimson Jazz Cat musicians: Christopher Arthur, Nicholas Arthur, Ben Barton, Meghan Brady-Fuchsman, Kyle Brown, Daniel Curtin, Corrine DeRosa, Gregory DeRosa, Jeremy Forman, Lauren Gotard, Parker Keller, Julianna Licona, Ray Matuza, Tyler Meyer, Megan Neuman, Anna Noonan, Leila Perry, Connor Rankel, Nohl Schwandtner, Logan Slansky, Dylan Thyer, Elliott Trester, Brian Zuckerberg, and Kevin Zuckerberg.
