The Lady Wildcats have been on a roll as of late, winning their last 5 games, many in decisive fashion. With wins over Lindenhurst, Central Islip, HH Hills East, Connetquot, and Bay Shore, Whitman stands 9-4 in League II play.  The Wildcats have a playoff berth wrapped up and get ready for their final regular season game against the undefeated Northport Tigers in Whitman’s North Gym.

The team has been playing solid defense and spreading the ball around offensively. In the recent Bay Shore game, junior Zenab Ojibe got into a steady groove and was a big contributor whenever she was on the court.  “Zenab has come on strong lately and given us a couple of really good games,” said Varsity Coach Dan Trebour.  A junior at 5’11” Zenab posted 10 rebounds and 8 points in the Wildcats 45-30 win over rival Bay Shore. “Zenab’s performance is exactly what good teams need coming off the bench, someone consistent whom you can count on for good defense and you know is going to put up solid numbers offensively.”

In a game that’s easily won or lost on turnovers, coach Trebour counts on sure hands and steady minds. “Even though Rosa Potaro, didn’t score her usual points, when the ball is in her hand I feel very comfortable,” said Coach Trebour. Portaro scored 5 points in the Bay Shore game, including one 3-pointer at a crucial moment that deflated the opposition.

In the Bay Shore win, top scoring went to Brittney Coleman with 10 points. “Brittney’s led the team in the last couple of games in points,” said Coach Trebour. “When your shooting guard is hitting her shots, it opens it up for the other players.” One of those ‘other’ players coach is alluding to is Rose Pedretti. “You know your getting a solid performance both defensively and offensively from Rose,” said Coach Trebour.  Pedretti scored 9 points in the Bay Shore win.

“It feels good to get the win when it’s expected,” said Trebour. The lady Wildcats have won their last 5 games leading into this Friday night’s Coaches vs. Cancer Classic against the undefeated Northport Tigers in Whitman’s North Gym. Game-time is 7PM.
