Mrs. Jennifer Baierlein MS,RN, C-OB, an instructor at Molloy College discussed the profession of Nursing with our Whitman students. Mrs. Baierlein thoroughly covered topics including the history of nursing, post-secondary nursing programs including 2-year Associate Degrees, 4-year Baccalaureate Programs, the benefits and purposes of Master’s Degrees, Doctoral Programs and Certifications by Specialties.

Students learned about the wide-range of nursing opportunities within a hospital such as Emergency Department, ICU, CCU, Step-down, Ambulatory, Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Preoperative Testing, Labor & Delivery, Maternity, Nursery, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatrics, Medical/Surgical Units, Oncology, Telemetry, Orthopedics, Psychiatrics, Case Management, Utilization Review, Staff Development, and Administration.

In addition, students also learned about varied careers for nurses outside a hospital setting including School Nurse, Education, Simulation, Home Care, Surgery Centers, Drug or Medical Supply Companies, Insurance Companies, Doctor Office, Rehab, Law Firms, Research, and Blood Banks.

Lastly, students were informed about future nursing trends and the boundless professional opportunities and challenges facing the healthcare industry moving forward.
