On December 13, 2014, Silas Wood teacher Dr. Gay Bullock, who earned a doctorate degree in the field of educational leadership from St. John’s University, was recognized by the president of Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY), Dr. Vinton Thompson, and the Board of Trustees at the 50th Anniversary Leadership Breakfast. Dr. Bullock was one of several luminaries recognized as an exceptional educator, avid community activist and generous philanthropist. In a room filled with distinguished educators, Dr. Thompson described Dr. Bullock as “dynamic and committed to improving the lives of all.”

In her acceptance speech, Dr. Bullock stated: “It is truly an honor to stand before you in the company of so many who believe in being a good shepherd. My mother is a good shepherd. Audrey Cohen, the founder of MCNY was a good shepherd, and the MCNY family should be commended for 50 years of building and broadening her vision. Mrs. Cohen did not see economic deprivation, ethnicity or gender as an excuse for ignorance or failure. When she established the foundation for what would become this place, education was said to be the pathway to a better life. But we know better, today, it is a prerequisite. Therefore, it only makes sense that MCNY would preserve the promise of education.”

We are proud to congratulate Dr. Bullock on her esteemed honor.
