The National Merit Scholarship program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. High school students enter the National Merit program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Congratulations to Whitman senior Connor Galvin who has qualified as Semifinalist.

Connor is one of 16,000 students nationally, or approximately one-third of the nations 50,000 high scorers, that have qualified as Semifinalists. Connor will find out in February if he has advanced to the finalist standings.

When Connor isn’t running Cross Country, you may find him in West Hills County Park working on his Eagle Scout requirements with the assistance of his friends in Troop 34. By his own admission, Connor is in “a good place” when he talks about Whitman, as he is clearly enjoying the camaraderie with friends and teachers.

Connor is a math enthusiast and actively competes for the Walt Whitman Mathlete team; he and his teammates are hoping to bring the county championship back to Whitman. Connor also runs winter and spring track for the Wildcats. Connor’s academic standing will open many college doors, but where he decides to continue his education is still up in the air.

Congratulations Connor Galvin on your National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist Recognition.
