Out of nearly 20,000 public high schools evaluated by U.S. News & World Report, Walt Whitman High School has been ranked 663 in the nation. Walt Whitman has improved its national ranking from last year by 87 points. Out of the 1,147 high schools in New York State, Whitman has been ranked 64th. It has also again improved on its state ranking from last year's by 21 points. And the news keeps improving for residents of the South Huntington School District as the 2014 U.S. News & World Report ranking places Walt Whitman in the top 20 high schools on Long Island.

According to U.S. News and World Report, the 2014 Best High Schools ranking is based on the key principles that a great high school must serve all of its students well, not just those who are college bound, and that it must be able to produce measurable academic outcomes to show that the school is successfully educating its student body across a range of performance indicators.

Congratulations to our administrators, teachers, staff, students, and, most importantly, the unwaveringly supportive parents and families, all of whom make the South Huntington academic community such a special place.
