Having come off of a difficult 8-9 loss to rival Bay Shore, Whitman’s Boys Varsity Lacrosse were in a must win situation early in the season in the always tough Suffolk Division 1.

The game started in a cold driving rain and both teams battled for position with the Wildcats down 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. East Islip fired back outscoring Whitman 6-4 in the next 2 quarters setting up a critical 4th quarter. The rain had ended, and the Wildcat defense stiffened shutting out East Islip 5-0 for the fourth and final quarter. “I believe the turning point in the game came in the fourth quarter,” said varsity head coach Bob Howell.   “Goalie Shane Brennan hit Addison Bermudez with an over the shoulder pass at Midfield.  Addison carried the ball to the offensive end setting up a fast-break.  Addison passed the ball to Liam Brennan who passed it to Scott Manning who then passed the ball to Patric Harrington who put it in the net to tie the score at eight.”

Wildcats move up with the 12-8 final score.  Whitman’s Scott Manning scored four goals and had two assists, Liam Brennan had three goals and six assists, Patrick Harrington scored two goals and had one assist, Jaron Batts added one goal and one assist, Ryan Wolff also added one goal and one assist, and Matt Stockfelder capped the day with a goal. Sophomore Goalie Shane Brennan recorded 10 saves on the day.

The team travels to Copiague on Tuesday and to Brentwood on Thursday before returning to their home turf to faceoff against a tough Smithtown East on Wednesday April 9th at 4:45.
