At Whitman’s Girls Varsity Badminton match this past Tuesday, a record was set and play was stopped to honor one of Whitman’s all-time badminton players. Senior Carrie Simone defeated her opponent 11-1 and 11-0 to win a milestone 50th career match. This is the very first time in Whitman girl’s badminton history that this milestone has been reached.

“I was aware that my 50th was approaching, but I didn’t know it was going to be today,” said Simone. Her goal for this, her final year, is to win the Suffolk County tournament. “Carrie has been All-County 3 times and more than likely will be again this year,” said Varsity Badminton Coach Scott Wolff.  “So 4 years at All-County, that’s a rare accomplishment in itself,” said Wolff. “She’s a super talented badminton player.

“It feels a little crazy that after all these years it will all come to a end,” said Simone. “But I’m looking forward to the University of Albany next year where I plan on studying accounting.”

Congratulations Carrie Simone and Coach Wolff, milestones don’t happen every day.
