The Birchwood PTA held their annual cultural arts fundraiser on Thursday night at the Paramount Theater, and by all indications it was a highly successful evening. For most in attendance, it was a first-time look into the private “Founders Club” that makes-up the ground level of this amazing venue. Created to provide the ambiance of a speak-easy during the Prohibition era of the late 1920’s, Birchwood’s staff, parents, and guests, made themselves right at home as music and conversation flowed effortlessly. “Our March Madness at the Paramount was a huge success,” said PTA President Ms. Laura Carey.  “We couldn't have asked for a better evening for all of our guests.”

Special guests included Suffolk Legislator Louis D’Amaro and State Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci who added to the party atmosphere as Board Members and Administrators mingled with staff and parents, thoroughly enjoying the musical entertainment.

After a brief welcome message, the National Anthem was sung by Birchwood 5th grader Pamela Carey.  Superintendent Dave Bennardo, accompanied by his mom Sandra on the piano, and his daughter Jenelle, performed a perfect rendition of the 1967 Louis Armstrong classic “What a Wonderful World.”  The Bennardo’s were followed by Birchwood’s resident band “Staff Development” comprised of Mr. Hewlett, Ms. Gruttadauria, Dr. Kosak and Ms. Correll. These very talented teachers rocked the house that included many favorites that took the audience from tapping their feet to singing along in unison. One special surprise was when Birchwood staffer Margaret Seifert took to the microphone and left everyone wanting more with her rendition of Sheryl Crow’s popular song, “Strong Enough.”

The raffle baskets wound down the evening as more than 80 overstuffed baskets were happily claimed by their winners. Principal Anthony Ciccarelli and PTA President Laura Carey would like to thank the hard working Paramount event committee, parent volunteers, and especially, the more than 150 businesses and community members who contributed so generously to the raffle prizes. "This night could not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of all of our parent volunteers this year,” said Ms. Laura Carey.  “You couldn’t ask for a more dedicated team of people who went the extra mile to make sure this event was perfect!"
