Ferrante Takes Silver- Posts Best Epee Record

On Saturday, February 8th, the Whitman Men's and Women's Fencing teams competed in the Suffolk County Championships. The team had a day of mixed results, with several team members just missing out on the chance to compete for medals. All team members persevered despite the mixed results and everyone had a fun time.

Several team members received all-county honors, including:

Ellen Tricomi (JR, Women's Foil): All-County Honorable Mention

Isabel Sakarin (JR, Women's Sabre): All-County 2nd Team

Alexandria Alpy (JR, Women's Epee): All-County 2nd Team

Ben Sakarin (JR, Men's Sabre): All-County Honorable Mention

Mike Ruotolo (SR, Men's Foil):  1st Team All- County (Honorable Mention All-Long Island)

Thomas Ferrante (JR, Men's Epee): 1st Team All-County, All-Long Island

Senior, Mike Ruotolo had one of the top records for the season in Men's Foil and Thomas Ferrante, in Men's Epee, had the best record in the county for the season.

Senior, Mike Ruotolo was named Fencer's Fencer, an honor bestowed upon him by his peers in the county. (see related story posted earlier)

Several members of the team also individually medaled on the day:

Adam Meskill (FR, Men's Foil) - 6th place.

Sarah Goehring (SR, Women's Epee) - 6th place.

Thomas Ferrante (JR, Men's Epee) - crowned the day with a Silver Medal.

Mike Ruotolo and Sarah Goehring were both named to the exceptional senior team and will compete against the Nassau senior team in March. We wish them both the best of luck!

The team would also like to wish our graduating seniors all the best in their post-high school plans, including Mike Ruotolo, Anfernee Aiken, James Stander, Thomas Ciravolo, Mike Porcelli, Marcus Carde, Luke Ingle and Sarah Goehring.
