South Huntington School District’s Annual Giving Tree Holiday Toy and Gift Drive got an extra boost this year, thanks in part to Walt Whitman teacher Mr. Jaime Rogers and his generous neighborhood.

Mr. Rogers is captain of Engine Company 2 in the Terryville Fire Department, which serves the hamlets of Port Jefferson Station and Terryville.

“This year was our seventh annual Company 2 toy drive, where children get their photo taken with Santa and then donate a toy,” said Mr. Rogers. “The donations far exceeded our expectations. We were able to take care of our local Comeswogue High School and St. Charles and Stony Brook Hospitals, as well other organizations in our area.”  When Mr. Rogers saw that there were still many toys left to donate, he reached out to his co-workers in South Huntington.

The district’s social workers sprang into action, and each day Mr. Rogers drove his sleigh full of toys to our local schools. On one particular day, Mr. Roberto Toledo, Oakwood’s social worker, was ready to check off his list, items needed for their Giving Tree. “Every year at Oakwood Primary Center, as with all of our buildings, we have our Holiday Giving Tree to help families in the community, and we are so grateful to Mr. Rogers and the Terryville Fire Department for their generous donation,” said Mr. Toledo.

Walt Whitman senior Aubrey Daly, who helped manage the throngs of Terryville community members donating toys, assisted with the Company 2 toy drive.

Thank you to the entire Terryville Fire Department community for your generosity during the holiday season.
