On Saturday, December 21, the Whitman fencing team held its Alumni Meet, with 24 alumni attending the event. The event was held in honor of alumnus Andrew Garafalo, a member of the community and fencing family who passed away in June. Andrew was a unique individual, and it is part of the mission of the incredible group of people who are his friends to keep his memory alive and present in their lives as well as to share him with others. In keeping with this, a fencing scholarship and an award in Andrew’s name were both recently announced. The scholarship and award will seek to honor Andrew’s memory and to share the uplifting lessons he taught all who knew him about how to be oneself and to enjoy and appreciate life in all its forms.

The event was a great success, with alumni getting to meet and fence current team members as well as other alumni for the first time. It was a great experience for current members to meet the extended Whitman fencing family whom they hear so much about. The event is intended to become an annual one, given the fun that was had by all. Everyone is already looking forward to it again next year!

Not in photo but in attendance, were Angela Acevedo & Max Gibbons. Other Wildcat  Fencing Alumni who could not attend the Saturday event but were at the recent home meet honoring Andrew included: Jackie Addeo, Jocelyn Addeo, Lindsy Tortorice, Aniqa Raihan, Mike Stango, Christian Roccanova, Lily Michelson, Anna Robinson, Lauren Miller, and Brian Galvin.
