The first day of the 25th Annual Frank Gugliotta Memorial Tournament is in the books and the final rounds are set to begin today, December 27th at 5PM with the consolation bracket featuring Jericho vs. Hauppauge. Then at 7PM, The Whitman Wildcats will take on the Harborfields Tornadoes in the final championship round.

In the first round of competition, the Wildcats held a slim edge on the Hauppague Eagles as both teams adjusted to each other, ending the first period 14-12. Whitman’s defense got tough in the second period holding Hauppague to only 5 points ending the half 28-17. Both teams battled evenly in the 3rd period with the Wildcats scoring 21 against the Eagles 18. In the final 4th period, the Wildcats poured it on with aggressive defense and a relentless offense, posting another 21-point quarter. Whitman won 70-44. 

Whitman’s high scorer was Travon Patron with 20 points, including five assists and five steals. Bedel Saget posted a triple-double with 10 points, 11 Assists and 10 rebounds. Nima Esmizadeh, a 6’4” senior, posted eight points and 10 rebounds. The balance of the Wildcat scoring went to Allek Hendrickson-13 points, KB Bamgbleu-5 points, Zach Cummings- 4points, Joey Grasso-3 points, Kola Adebola-3 points, Chris Corbin-2 points, and Jordan Aiken-2 points.
