This past Friday evening was the official grand opening ceremony by our new tenants in the old library site at Two Melville Road. The ceremony, sponsored by the Spirit of Huntington Arts Center, was directed by the company’s founder, Mr. Erich Preis, and executive director, Mr. Michael Kitakis, and attended by our central office administrators, as well as Board of Education trustee Laura Carey.

In addition, Councilwoman Susan Berland joined in the festivities, as did Suffolk County Legislator Dr. William Spencer.  On site for this special occasion was the United States Merchant Marine Academy Color Guard, and an overhead fly-by of a World War II B-25 Mitchell Bomber named Miss Hap from the Air Power Museum located at Republic Airport.

The Spirit Of Huntington Art Center is a not-for-profit group of artists coming together in a creative environment to build a community that supports children with special needs and veterans through creative expression of art. The center was dedicated to Michael Allen Noeth, an artist and veteran who died on 9/11 at the Pentagon in Washington, DC.  The Spirit of Huntington Arts Center’s founder Mr. Erich Preis and Mr. Noeth were the best of friends.

It was particularly exciting to see the Spirit of Huntington's co-tenants from Video Design at the ceremony, as they shared in the excitement of this special evening. There is something very special taking place at the old library site as a genuine, revenue-generating "think-tank" evolves in the formerly vacant building. We look forward to soon welcoming a fourth tenant that will bring our annual revenue to approximately $200,000 and provide exciting art, science, and video design internship opportunities for our students.

At the Grand Opening festivities, we were especially proud to hear our Walt Whitman Chamber Orchestra perform. Our musicians and their director, Mr. Frank Yolango, performed with distinction, adding a special tone of elegance to the beautiful ceremony. The talented students and their dedicated directors have developed a reputation for excellence and garnered prestigious invitations to perform.  It is wonderful to see our dynamic music program turning heads and drawing applause throughout the region.

Look for additional exciting things happening at Two Melville Road, as tenants in this building showcase their out-of-the-box creative thinking.
