Congratulations Walt Whitman High School Wildcat Marching Band

Our Marching Band, under the leadership of Coordinator Allan Deitz and Director Dan Krueger, carried the momentum of the busy fall weekend of events into the New York State Marching Band Championship on Sunday afternoon, October 27th.  This traditional season-ending competition, held in the Carrier Dome of Syracuse University, included only the finest bands in New York State.  We were incredibly proud to watch our students shine as they earned 8th place in all of New York State.  Please join in congratulating these talented musicians and directors for all of their hard work and dedication.  Thank you, as well, to all of the dedicated parents who are supporting and nurturing the arts in our South Huntington community.

From Marching Band Director Dan Krueger:

I want to take a moment and congratulate the entire network of the Walt Whitman High School Wildcat Marching Band family on an amazing season that concluded with an extremely beautiful performance at this year’s NYSFBC Championships at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY.

Early in our season, the focus of every member was evident that they wanted to push forward to the next level of performance. I have watched as an amazingly dedicated group of students strived for both the very best as an ensemble, and more importantly, as individuals.  I have also had the pleasure of working with many parents, fellow staff members and administrators who hold themselves to as high of a standard as the children we help raise, pitching in any way they can to help the program flourish.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all of you; Without your hard work at learning your 16th note runs, finding a safe way to roll a curved pole, learning how to dance with a drum on while looking cool, helping hand out programs or 50/50 raffle tickets at the home show, or driving the trailer all over the state (luckily this time not through a hurricane) your dedication to this program has all paid off with an extraordinary performance in the Carrier Dome.

For those that will be leaving us to continue on into the next stage of life after graduation in June, thank you for your loyal support and hard work.  We have spoken many times on how hard you have worked on helping build the family component that makes this program more than just a musical/visual ensemble.  It is a place where friendships are made that last a lifetime.

As we all enjoy the "off season," we have already started talking about next years show and are planning a true spring training program so that we can set a solid foundation for next season.

The staff all agreed that the championship performance was by far the greatest show you put on all season. Congratulations.

Again, thank you for a great season.  I cannot wait to see you all again soon!

With great pride,
Dan Krueger
