The Walt Whitman JV Football team closed out their season with an 8-0 undefeated record. JV Coaches Curt Russell and Ed Henselder were impressed with the quality of their young players. “We started last June with weight, speed and strength training and the kids have all stepped up, displayed a positive attitude and played disciplined football,” said Coach Russell.

After winning their first 5 games, the team and their coaches began to realize what was in the back of everyone’s mind. But in week 6 they were going up against a powerful Riverhead team.  “After we beat an undefeated Riverhead team 16-0, we knew we were on to something and this was looking like a special season,” said Coach Russell. Riverhead fell, then Centereach and finally Bay Shore to give the junior Wildcats an undefeated season.

Impact players that will now be moving up to varsity for next season are the 3 JV captains; Angelo Gervasio, Juan Gonzales, and Jeremy Dalimonte. Other players who really stepped-up this past season and look forward to seeing varsity time next year are: Jordan Guerrero, Nick DeBlasio, Tyrese Betts, Danny Vilorio, Jayson Guerrero, and Addison Bermudez. “For both Coach Henselder and myself, this group of players exhibited a strong work ethic and were a pleasure to coach,” said Russell.  “We would like to congratulate all of our players for their hard work and very successful season.”
